Assessing impacts of COVID-19 on aquatic food system and small-scale fisheries in Bangladesh

COVID-19 is now a major global health crisis, can lead to severe food crisis unless proper measures are taken. Though number of scientific studies have addressed the possible impacts in Bangladesh on variety issues, problems and crises associated with aquatic resources communities missing. Therefore, this study aimed at bridging gap existing situation challenges by linking its impact sector small-scale fisheries dependent population. The was conducted based secondary data analysis primary fieldwork. Secondary focused overview confirmed, recovered death cases Bangladesh; same time connection fisheries, production, demand supply analyzed. Community perceptions were elicited present how changes felt they affected system found devastating impact. Sudden illness, reduced income, complication start production input collection, labor transportation abstraction, complexity supply, weak value chain, low consumer demand, rising commodity prices, creditor’s pressure identified as affecting drivers. Dependent people taken Government should be protecting both security. Scope alternative income generating opportunities, rationing system, training motivational program could improve situation. provides insight into policies adopted policy makers mitigate effects pandemic fisheries.
